Flooding may affect locations near the coastal streams in Redcar and Cleveland, with low lying land and roads and riverside footpaths expected to be most affected. Further rainfall is forecast throughout the evening. We are closely monitoring the situation. The flood gates at Skinningrove will remain closed overnight. Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the coastal streams in Redcar and Cleveland, with low lying land and roads and riverside footpaths expected to be most affected. The areas that remain most at risk include riverside footpaths and low lying land and roads, where flooding is still possible. Rain is starting to ease and will clear overnight. However, river levels will remain high until tomorrow morning and we will continue to monitor rainfall and river levels. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Areas most at risk include riverside footpaths and low lying land and roads, where flooding is possible from 11:00 AM, 26/09/2024. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and the flood gates at Skinningrove may close this afternoon. Further rainfall is expected throughout the day and river levels are forecast to remain high until the evening of 26/09/2024. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. River levels are forecast to rise near the Coastal Streams in Redcar and Cleveland, as a result of heavy, thundery rainfall on Thursday morning. Forecast levels suggest that there may be flooding to riverside footpaths and low-lying land and roads close to the river from 04:00 AM, Thursday 1st August There is low confidence in the exact location and distribution of the heaviest showers but where they do fall there will be a particular risk of surface water impacts in urban areas and the potential for a fluvial response in rapidly responding catchments We do not expect to issue any flood warnings, however river levels could remain high during Thursday morning. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and have extra staff resources available. We will close Skinningrove flood gates if needed. Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water. This message will be updated by 11:00 AM on Thursday morning (1st August, 2024) or earlier if the situation changes.

Heavy rainfall continues to move in from the North Sea and will persist over Saturday night. Rainfall is expected to become lighter and more showery during late Sunday morning 14/07/24. River levels are expected to peak later on Sunday 14/07/24. Areas most at risk of river flooding include riverside footpaths and low-lying land and roads. At this stage, we do not expect any property flooding from rivers. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels closely. We anticipate rainfall will be less intense than on Tuesday night (09/07/24). Environment Agency teams are on standby ready to mobilise to Skinningrove and Loftus if needed. We advise residents to remain vigilant to the possibility of flooding. Further showers are possible throughout the afternoon but unlikely to be as intense as they were this morning. We have a field team in the area who are monitoring the situation and assisting the emergency services. At this stage we don’t expect to need to close the flood gates at Skinningrove. There have been some heavy showers this afternoon (Saturday 8th July) in the North East Area, but the potential for further heavy, possibly thundery, showers remains this evening and through the night which could bring high isolated totals. There is low confidence in the exact location and distribution of the heaviest showers but where they do fall there will be a particular risk of surface water impacts in urban areas and the potential for a fluvial response in rapidly responding catchments. Therefore, the Flood Alert will remain in force overnight and we will provide a further update tomorrow morning. We are not currently expecting to issue any Flood Warnings but we are closely monitoring the situation and will issue any Flood Warnings if required.

We are likely to see river levels rise through the early hours of Friday and peak during the morning. We have operational teams on standby and may need to close the flood gates in Skinningrove during the early hours of Friday, 28/08/2020.
